EDGE. player. Scouting Report. Pick Analysis. Georgia. Nolan Smith. 21. 13

The Chargers are floating in between mediocre and great. Whether they realize it or not, they will need to address their need to overhaul some key positions. The Chargers currently have some aging defensive stars. Nolan Smith would help build up the front seven for success in the upcoming future. While Smith is a smaller EDGE rusher, he possesses some excellent traits. In their defense, he could play a role as their outside linebacker in the base defense and Los Angeles could kick Khalil Mack inside. In a hybrid role, we could really see Smith turn into a difference-maker on the front end.

26. Scouting Report. Pick Analysis. player. WR. North Carolina. Josh Downs. 22

The Ravens find themselves in a, “we’ve got to take the best receiver available” situation. At 22, with Josh Downs available, they make the pick. While undersized, Downs is as explosive as anyone. As a player that can make defenders miss, Downs also has very good speed. While he would likely serve most of his rookie campaign in the slot, Downs could eventually become a top-tier deep threat. At worst, he will be a great gadget player.

60. Scouting Report. CB. Penn State. Joey Porter Jr.. Pick Analysis. 23. player

The Vikings have seemed to have a bad defensive backfield for nearly a decade. It’s time that they address that issue. While it seems crazy that Joey Porter Jr. would be available at pick 23, the Vikings could certainly benefit from his fall. Porter is a lengthy defender that does a great job of breaking on the ball. As a potential premier playmaker, he would certainly help a struggling defensive backfield eventually find its footing.

OT. Northwestern. Peter Skoronski. 24. Scouting Report. Pick Analysis. player. 52

After losing a great pass-blocking tackle in Jawaan Taylor, the Jaguars would be wise to get a new young stud to play on the right side. While he does not possess the same athleticism that Taylor did, he has some serious power in his lower half. With a little bit of NFL coaching, Skoronski could be an excellent long-term option for the Jaguars as they look to improve on their successes.

36. Scouting Report. Pick Analysis. Minnesota. 25. player. G. John Michael Schmitz

(From Seattle in projected trade)

Seattle has put themselves in a great position with plenty of draft capital and talent on the roster. Now, it’s about making sure Geno Smith can play at his very best in Pete Carroll’s system. What better way to do that than draft John Michael Schmitz. Schmitz is a long-time college athlete that could step on the field from day one and make an immediate impact. With a strong anchor and good length, Schmitz could develop into something special one day. For Seattle, getting him at 25 would be the dream scenario.
