Chiefs’ possible Day 2 receiver options (Part 1)

This is where people are going to start to dispute which prospects should be on the list. If you’ve been studying the wide receiver prospects you may have a personal favorite that is much farther down the list. I will just say that I think any player on the following three pages could go anytime between the late second round to falling all the way into late day three. So I agree that this isn’t the order these prospects will actually be drafted in, but for now I am going with the order that seems most common on big boards and mock drafts.

7. Rashee Rice – SMU – 6’1″ – 204 lbs – 4.51 forty

Rice is definitely a contrast to the smaller separator type prospects like Flowers and Downs. He’s a contested catch master, which is good because he doesn’t create near as much separation for himself. I actually really like Rice as as second round option for the Chiefs. He’ll need time to refine his routes, but he blocks well, has the size to play outside and could be a reliable target in the short and intermediate route range.

8. Kayshon Boutte – LSU – 5’11” – 195 lbs – 4.50 forty

Kayshon Boutte looked like a future first round draft pick after his freshman year, but injuries, butting heads with his coaching staff, and questionable work ethic now have him as a big question mark in this draft class. If you go off his highlight reel you could be talked into using a 2nd round pick on him. If you look at his red flags you might take him off your board all together. I personally would be worried about using higher than a third round pick on Boutte, but at that point his upside would be worth the flier.

9. Tank Dell – Houston – 5’8″ – 165 lbs – 4.49 forty

Tank Dell looked fantastic at the Senior Bowl and looks like he’s another undersized receiver who can create separation for himself out of the slot with nice routes and quick change of direction. I don’t think Dell will ever be an every down starting receiver, but as a slot option I think Dell could thrive under Andy Reid and I’d be happy with using a second round pick on him.

10. Marvin Mims Jr. – Oklahoma – 5’11” – 183 lbs – 4.38 forty

Had Caleb Williams stayed at Oklahoma Marvin Mims Jr. might be a potential first round draft pick, but as is it looks like he’s a solid day two option. He’s often compared to Tyler Lockett as someone that is built like a slot receiver but has the speed and ball skills to play on the outside. I really like Mims as a second round option for the Chiefs who KC could move around and play in different spots.

11. Cedric Tillman – Tennessee – 6’3″ – 213 lbs – 4.54 forty

Cedric Tillman is one of only a handful of receivers in this class with the size to be a true X receiver. He doesn’t have blazing speed, but he’s a good blocker and his body control makes him a good 50/50 ball target. I like Tillman as a long term MVS replacement, but I don’t know that I see him as someone that could help fill KC’s WR production needs as a rookie.

12. Tyler Scott – Cincinnati – 5’10” – 177 lbs – 4.44 forty (4.32 at pro day)

Tyler Scott actually has several similarities to Marvin Mims in that he’s an undersized wide receiver that still finds a way to win on the outside. His tape shows a little more straight line speed, but I like Mims hands a little better. I’d be fine with either Scott or Mims in the 2nd or third round.

Those are the most mocked receivers in the 2nd round, but the next page includes some more prospects that could sneak in if the right team likes them.
