Geron Christian, Offensive Tackle

After spending 2021 with the Houston Texans, Geron Christian signed with the Chiefs on a one-year deal. After playing extremely well in relief of star blindside blocker Laremy Tunsil, Kansas City opted to bring Christian in as a solid depth piece at tackle, in addition to insurance in case Orlando Brown Jr. held out into the regular season.

Fortunately, Christian never saw the field on offense in non-garbage time situations and was primarily a blocker on field goal/extra point attempts, where he played as well as one can realistically expect.

Due to the return of Lucas Niang from the physically unable to perform (PUP) list and the activation of Mecole Hardman off injured reserve, the Chiefs waived Geron Christian before Week 18, where he was eventually claimed by the Dolphins. His grade was docked a little since he did not last the entire season.

The Grade: C-

Austin Reiter, Center

The Chiefs welcomed back former starting center Austin Reiter last offseason after he spent the 2021 season in New Orleans, Miami, and Los Angeles. He was a familiar face as he was the team’s starting center in 2019 and 2020, starting in both Super Bowls those years.

He was waived at the end of training camp and then re-signed to the practice squad, where he spent the entire season. He never suited up for a game and signed a reserve/future contract shortly after Super Bowl LVII.

Since he didn’t meet or fail to meet expectations, his signing will earn a perfectly average grade.
