The Kansas City Chiefs maintained some important interior depth with the return of Nick Allegretti in 2023.

The Kansas City Chiefs have officially re-signed offensive lineman Nick Allegretti to a one-year deal. The move was initially reported by reporter Herbie Teope of the Kansas City Star.

The Chiefs first selected Allegretti in the seventh round of the 2019 NFL Draft at No. 216 overall out of the University of Illinois. He’d been a solid starter for a number of years for the Illini and the Chiefs took a flyer that he could make the roster as a versatile lineman with plenty of experience.

During his rookie year, he not only made the active roster but appeared in seven games almost entirely on special teams. His next season, however, he proved how effective he could be in a pinch when subbing for the injured Kelechi Osemele at left guard. Allegretti ended up starting 9 games for the Chiefs and played in all 16 games. Over the last two years, Allegretti has filled in at times where needed while providing further special teams support in every single contest.

Allegretti has definitely beaten the early odds as such a late-round pick. He’s turned into a valuable role player up front, the sort of “glue” player that are so vital for contending teams forced to play such long seasons. He’s versatile with the ability to play guard and center and he’s also incredibly durable up front. With the loss of Andrew Wylie, Allegretti now takes on a senior sixth-man sort of role along the offensive line.
