Let’s step in with some complete curveball ideas for trades that would make the Kansas City Chiefs stronger than before.

We have to admit, we’re tired of letting Brett Veach have all of the fun. While we ultimately want the Kansas City Chiefs general manager to have full control of the roster for our favorite team, we also need a moment to at least weigh in with some ideas of our own. After all, playing armchair GM is one of the best parts of this time of year on the NFL calendar.

Here are the start of a new league year and the beginning of free agency, some deals are already coming together. Many players are on the trade block already—from wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins of the Cardinals to center Ryan Kelly of the Colts—but those are the sorts of players that the Chiefs might have trouble acquiring given current cap constraints or present needs.

Instead, we thought it would be fun to help Veach out by throwing out some ideas for some smaller trades that could make a big difference this year. There’s no blockbuster on this list. Instead, the focus is on something manageable that could take advantage of some roster situations or coaching changes in order to see what a player might do in Kansas City.

Up ahead, you’ll read about three minor deals we’d be happy to see the Chiefs make, from a dynamic replacement for Jerick McKinnon in the backfield to some help with the pass rush in a couple of ways.
