There’s nothing like looking over at your rivals and seeing them fall apart even before the games are played.
There’s absolutely no feeling as a fan like watching your favorite franchise reach the pinnacle, which is what has made being a Kansas City Chiefs fan so much fun for the last few years as the team has captured two of the last four Super Bowl titles.
That said, it’s also nearly as much fun watching your rivals burn their own house down.
The AFC West has belonged to the Chiefs for one two three four five six seven consecutive seasons—the longest run of dominance in the NFL for, well, a very long time. (Sorry, too lazy to look it up again.) Suffice it to say that some players have enjoyed long careers with rival teams—the L.A. Chargers, the Las Vegas Raiders, the Denver Broncos—having never tasted anything close to a division title.
While it’s wonderful to win a Super Bowl, it’s also quite enjoyable to watch either the Broncos or Chargers or Raiders occupy the divisional basement and/or make ridiculous moves. The result of making a stupid signing or making an asinine trade is a frustrated fan base that often takes to social media for their weeping and gnashing of teeth (if Twitter was in Biblical times), which is a lot of fun to watch as a Chiefs fan.
Fortunately, the Raiders gave us another such moment on Tuesday when they traded tight end Darren Waller to the New York Giants for a third-round pick. Interestingly it was the very compensatory pick the Chiefs shipped to the Giants in exchange for Kadarius Toney.
Check out the response of franchise running back Josh Jacobs:

By the way, the timing here could not be more hilarious:
Darren Waller JUST GOT MARRIED to Kelsey Plum of the Las Vegas Aces and Josh McDaniels’ wedding present was to trade him to the New York Giants. McDaniels is NOT a romantic.

He wasn’t the only one who is wondering what the Raiders are doing this offseason, given that they already released Derek Carr only to commit big money to Jimmy Garoppolo.

So the Chiefs traded for Kadarius Toney for that pick which helped them win the Super Bowl AND the pick got Darren Waller out of the division. https://t.co/93i5eg8vOu

What a terrible trade for Darren Waller. A 3rd round pick? Really.. That is all you could get for a top 5 TE.

Good thing head coach Josh McDaniels is a man of his word:
“I have a great deal of confidence in Darren Waller… he'll be a big part of what we're going to do going forward."
