Nothing is official but Chris Jones is saying everything that Chiefs Kingdom wants to hear at this point on Twitter.

The National Football League is on the verge of the opening of free agency, which means that teams are getting ready to enter a frenzied week of rumors and moves to (hopefully) improve their chances at contending in 2023. For the Kansas City Chiefs, however, there’s a bit of business to wrap up before the week begins—that is, if they are going to create more cap space heading into things.

The Chiefs can create more cap space by handing out an extension or two heading into a new league year—moves that would allow the team to decrease the cap hit of a player in year one for the sake of spreading out the wealth over a long-term deal. That’s exactly what the Chiefs are hoping to do with Chris Jones as he heads into a contract year.

Jones is the team’s best pass rusher and was a candidate for the best defensive player in the NFL last season. He’s going to command serious money in a new deal, but Jones intimated that such a deal was imminent on Sunday on Twitter. It’s either that or he was just feeling very warm and loyal toward the franchise one month after the Super Bowl.

Here’s what Jones posted on Twitter on Sunday.

A fan followed up asking about an extension announcement and he then posted the following response.

The past tense of Jones’ final statement makes us all curious as to whether we’re just waiting on the public relations side to wrap up their statements and press releases or not, but it’s funny that Jones would break the news this way.

Even if Jones is just saying that he won’t play for anyone else even without an official extension ready for him to sign at this time, that’s still good news. He’s the sort of player who is already going to enter the Chiefs’ Ring of Honor and he has a real chance at HOF consideration if he can keep up his elite level of play a bit longer. Two Super Bowl rings certainly help his potential inclusion.
