The Kansas City Chiefs have lost wide receiver Marcus Kemp to the Washington Commanders.

Another familiar face is headed east next season to join the Washington Commanders with the word that former Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Marcus Kemp has signed with the team for 2023.

Kemp is the first Chiefs player to join former offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy with his new team.

The Chiefs first signed Kemp as a former undrafted free agent out of the University of Hawaii back in 2017. It’s a credit to his excellence on special teams and reliability to avoid mistakes that he was able to earn himself a spot on the back end of the active roster or the team’s practice squad for each of the last six seasons.

While there was a short stint in which Kemp landed an opportunity with the Miami Dolphins in that time, Kemp has proven to be a valuable core special teams player for Dave Toub for over half of a decade.

When it comes to expectations with the Commanders, no one in Washington should get too excited seeing the words “former Chiefs wide receiver.” Kemp offers very little in terms of offensive impact, but he will be an important glue piece to help Bieniemy apply his principles and cultivate the culture needed to replicate his success in K.C.—or at least find some level of it.

Kemp appeared in 46 games for the Chiefs in the last six seasons with four catches for 42 yards to his credit.
