Ranking KC Chiefs backup quarterback options from worst to best
By Matt Conner
Chase Daniel (a.k.a. the aging backup option)
Again, let’s get the perspective right here. This isn’t about Chase Daniel (and his tens of millions of dollars). It’s about the aging backup option.
On the surface, it might make sense to replace Chad Henne with Chad Henne. After all, Henne served the Chiefs well for the last few years and someone else like Chase Daniel or Joe Flacco or Case Keenum or Andy Dalton could all come in and rely on their years of experience to keep the chains moving instead of fearing the moment might be too big for them.
This option makes the most sense if you want to start from a fear-based perspective (and that’s totally fine). If safety and security are the number one goal here with a backup quarterback, then this is it and the Chiefs should just keep signing a parade of late-thirtysomethings for the next decade until Patrick Mahomes is in his twilight years or somehow loses his magical powers.
That much makes sense on paper, but we’re a bit more adventurous here and would like to see more out of the position than just a security measure.
