EDGE Carlos Dunlap

Prediction: Chiefs let him walk if he does not retire

Cost to Retain: 1 year deal worth $2.5-$3.5 Million

Analysis: It’s hard to say how much good football is left in Carlos Dunlap. While he was not the force that he had been in previous years, Dunlap had his moments in the 2022-2023 season, finishing the season with 4 sacks. After a Super Bowl victory, it seems like the best option may be for him to ride off into the sunset. If he chooses not to, it seems likely that he will need to find another team. The Chiefs are rarely in the business of signing older players and likely want to add some upper-tier talent to the EDGE position this offseason.

DT Derrick Nnadi

Prediction: Chiefs let him walk

Cost to Retain: 1 year deal worth $2.5-$4 Million

Analysis: It seems like the time has come for the Chiefs to let go of Derrick Nnadi and upgrade the defensive tackle position alongside Chris Jones. While Nnadi has been a nice run-stuffer during his time in Kansas City, it seemed like he may have taken a step back this year. There were very few memorable plays from him. He finished the season with the lowest snap percentage and tackle total of his career. The Chiefs may consider bringing him back to play a certain role, but there was a reason that the Chiefs brought in Brandon Williams later in the year.

DT Brandon Williams

Prediction: Chiefs let him walk if he does not retire.

Cost to Retain: 1 year deal worth $1.5-$2 Million

Analysis: Brandon Williams came out of retirement to join a Super Bowl contender and it paid off. Now, he will have a serious decision to make. At 34, it does not appear that he will return to that echelon that he once was. In his limited role, Williams was a functional piece of the equation along the defensive line. With that in mind, the Chiefs generally want to invest in younger pieces on both sides of the ball. If Williams returns for another season, it seems unlikely that it will be in a Chiefs uniform.
