The list of Kansas City Chiefs quarterbacks to hoist a Lombardi Trophy for themselves is not an exhaustive one.

The storied history of the National Football League is a surprisingly intimate one. While the popularity of the sport is now transcending continents and growing larger with each passing year, the truth is that very few franchises have enjoyed a truly golden era, especially one as prominent as the one put up by the Kansas City Chiefs these days.

The Chiefs have gone to three of the last four Super Bowls and hosted five consecutive AFC Championship games. They’ve won their division seven consecutive seasons in a row and they’ve advanced to the postseason in 9 of the last 10 years. They haven’t had a losing record (or even a .500 record) since 2012.

When it comes to Super Bowl history, only 34 quarterbacks have ever won the big game—a number that feels so small when considering the number of QBs who’ve played the game over the generations. However, it begins to make sense when you realize some quarterbacks hogged the glory all to themselves—whether it’s Tom Brady’s seven rings or Joe Montana’s four championships.

While some franchises have never had a quarterback hoist the Lombardi, the Chiefs are not among those. Instead, they have had two quarterbacks start and win a Super Bowl. The first was Len Dawson, who led the Chiefs to their first Super Bowl victory following the 1969 season. No one knew at the time that it would take another 50 years for that championship glory to return to Kansas City.

Mahomes is the second quarterback to win a Super Bowl in K.C. and he’s the team’s best bet ever to become a winner of multiple games. With a win on Sunday, Mahomes becomes No. 13 on the list of multiple Super Bowl winners—a near guarantee to place him in the hallowed halls of Canton, Ohio. (Only Jim Plunkett is on the outside looking in from that list.)

Given that he’s only 27 years old, Mahomes might be able to win several more for the Chiefs and climb a list that could make him the best to ever play the game.
