KC Chiefs: Overturned fumble costs Nick Bolton second touchdown
By Matt Conner
The Chiefs saw another fumble recovery for a touchdown reversed by officials in the second half.
Nick Bolton has already made his presence felt in Super Bowl LVII with the game’s only defensive touchdown, but he nearly made it two scores early in the third quarter with another scoop-and-score with the Chiefs down by three, 24-21.
On the Eagles’ opening drive of the second half, quarterback Jalen Hurts found running back Miles Sanders for a short pass, but Chiefs defensive back L’Jarius Sneed was more than ready for it and it was an instant hit for a three-yard loss. Even more importantly, the ball was knocked loose and Bolton picked it up and sauntered into the end zone.
For a brief moment, it looked as if Bolton would have his second touchdown of the night—an incredibly heroic performance from a second-year linebacker—but officials quickly went to work to see if it was the right call or not.
The call on the field was a touchdown after a fumble by Sanders, but Hurts was appealing for an incomplete pass. We will let you judge for yourself.
What call would you have made here? The officials usually stick with the ruling on the field if things are close, but here they felt like it was enough to call it an incomplete pass. Do you agree with the officials?
