Brandon Aiyuk is an unreliable witness for KC Chiefs

Kansas City Chiefs fans can only hope that San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk is right—but we shouldn’t trust him.

Yeah, we’re not so sure anyone should be listening to Brandon Aiyuk this week.

Aiyuk, a wide receiver for the San Francisco 49ers, speaks with authority and credibility when it comes to most NFC opponents given his experience within the conference over the last few years, especially playing for one of the most successful franchises in the NFC during Aiyuk’s time in the league. However, this week, we’re going to recommend that Chiefs Kingdom passes on anything Aiyuk has to say.

Earlier this week, Aiyuk spoke to a 49ers website about a number of topics, including the fact that he believes that San Francisco still had the best team in the league in 2022 “hands down.” From there, his reliability as a witness only lessens.

When speaking about the team that did represent the NFC in the Super Bowl, the Chiefs’ opponent in six days at State Farm Stadium, Aiyuk stated his belief in the Chiefs’ passing game ?s=20&t=ZuA-SHloDWiYNPFYbb2gJQ.

Look, we typically love and appreciate anyone who wants to get on board the Chiefs’ bandwagon, and like any cat, we’ll purr when petted, so comments like these should be exciting for Chiefs fans. We all entertain dreams of Patrick Mahomes hitting Travis Kelce up the seam or Marquez Valdez-Scantling on a deep route—a hot knife through Philly’s cold butter of a secondary.

That said, Aiyuk is an unreliable witness at this stage. Say what you will about the team’s quarterback situation, but the truth is that Aiyuk and company rolled over in the conference championship—a lap dog hoping the intruders won’t break anything as they case the house.

Beyond that, it’s not as if Aiyuk can blame quarterback play for that single game. The truth is that Aiyuk has never done a single thing against Philadelphia—ever. This year’s Philly roster is loaded, but even past iterations have had little problem taking care of Aiyuk on offense. He has 4 catches for 34 yards in three career games against the Eagles’ pass defense, including 1 catch for 10 yards just a week ago.

In other words, if someone is going to talk about what would “expose” the Eagles’ pass defense, it might help to talk to someone who has, y’know, exposed the Eagles’ pass defense in the past.

The Chiefs might be able to do that, but Aiyuk has never experienced it, and we’re not sure he’s the most reliable witness on this subject—right or wrong.
