Daiyan Henley, LB, Washington State

How often do you hear about a linebacker who was a former kick returner? Daiyan Henley is an intriguing NFL draft prospect with just enough production to create some real confidence behind any projection of potential, a linebacker with a productive background as a wideout who has a knack for big plays and upside as a versatile coverage linebacker.

Henley comes into pre-draft season after a single productive season at Washington State, the positive product of a decision to transfer for his final year of eligibility to the Cougars’ defense. Henley spent his first few years at the collegiate level at Nevada, and in his last season with the Wolf Pack, he put up 4 interceptions and 3 fumble recoveries.

For the Chiefs, there’s already a soft spot on the roster when it comes to coverage in the middle of the defense. When Willie Gay has dealt with any sort of injury concern, that issue is multiplied. Nick Bolton and Leo Chenal aren’t going to help much here, which is why another solid investment in a middle round would fill out team needs.

Henley as a choice anywhere from Rounds 3-5 would really bolster the second level of the defense.
