The Kansas City Chiefs have officially added another weapon at tight end back onto the active roster with the news that Jody Fortson is ready to play.

The Kansas City Chiefs made a couple of moves on Saturday, just a day before the single biggest game of the season for the team against the Cincinnati Bengals for the AFC conference title. Fortunately one of the moves adds another weapon to the team’s offense with the news that tight end Jody Fortson has been activated from injured reserve.

The Chiefs officially added Fortson back onto the active roster in time for him to be able to play against the visiting Bengals in a game that will decide the AFC’s representative in Super Bowl LVII.

Fortson has been sitting out on injured reserve with an elbow injury since late December and he hasn’t played in a game since Week 15. However, he recently returned to practice and the Chiefs had 21 days to activate him onto the roster after seeing him back on the field in practice or keep him out for the rest of the season.

Fortson has a difficult finding consistent targets, but that’s going to be true for almost anyone with Travis Kelce in the way at the position of tight end. The team is also rich in depth as well with last year’s fifth round pick Noah Gray and blocking tight end Blake Bell occupying spots on the active roster.

Fortson has 9 catches for 108 yards and 2 touchdowns for the season in limited action.

In other news, the Chiefs did release running back Jerrion Ealy from the practice squad in order to sign La’Mical Perine. They also promoted wide receivers Marcus Kemp and Ihmir Smith-Marsette from the practice squad in order to play on Sunday.
