Sorry to the rest of the NFL’s most talented quarterbacks, but even a one-legged Patrick Mahomes is officially better than anyone else.

These days they have metrics for everything around the National Football League, so when you say something like, “Even a one-legged Patrick Mahomes is better than [insert name or group here],” you can come up with some proof.

It might sound like a joke or something a passionate fan in Chiefs Kingdom might say, but an interesting set of stats began to circulate around the interwebs on Monday—the day after another round of the NFL postseason—and the results were remarkably supportive of the idea that even an injured Patrick Mahomes—a one-legged version, if you will—was still the best quarterback to take the field over the weekend.

What’s amazing here is that the NFL’s best young quarterbacks were all on display over the Divisional Round. Jalen Hurts was in the MVP conversation for the second half of the season. Josh Allen was oft-mentioned in the first half of the year. Joe Burrow is Joe Cool and would likely be the face of the NFL’s future if not for Mahomes. Trevor Lawrence could be the next phenom to join them with another breakout season.

But through it all, the metrics will tell you that it was a one-legged Mahomes who stood tallest (pun intended) with the ankle that wouldn’t rankle to still put up the most expected points per play on the day.

For those who are biting their nails over the AFC Championship game, you can begin to relax or at least know that your quarterback is the best whether he’s hobbling or fully healthy. Whether that can help the Chiefs get a leg up on the Bengals for the first time in four games is another question.
