Three coaches we’d rather not see hired in the AFC West

Mike Kafka

Hey, wait a minute! Yep, we put a familiar face on here, but in case you haven’t been watching, Mike Kafka is a hot name in NFL head coaching circles.

Kafka has only been a coordinator for a single season at the highest level, but he worked with Brian Daboll to bring legitimacy to the New York Giants offense this season. He even has Daniel Jones leading the team into the Divisional Round in a road game against Jalen Hurts and the Philadelphia Eagles. Jones has blossomed under Kafka’s tutelage, and a Giants team with very questionable options among their skill position players has gotten the job done nevertheless.

Why we’d rather not see him: We’re thrilled at the idea of Mike Kafka earning a head coaching role somewhere in the NFL. It would represent another branch in the Andy Reid coaching tree and any new face who gets a chance to take over an NFL team is a good thing (versus giving the same old names another chance). We just don’t like any of this happening in the West.

First, we don’t want to have to cast a shadow on Kafka’s head coaching record by beating him twice each season. However, if things went the other way around, it would be frustrating to see Kafka gaining success by using any insider knowledge about the Chiefs to his advantage.

Basically, we love Kafka and just want to see him flourish somewhere outside of the AFC West if he can’t do so with the Chiefs.
