Important lessons learned from KC Chiefs victory over Jaguars

Chad Henne holds an important role
Look, let’s be clear: Chad Henne is likely done after this season. He only came back this year on a one-year deal to the Chiefs, and he’s getting older every season. The Chiefs also have Shane Buechele waiting in the wings on the active roster all season—a clear sign the Chiefs have plans for him going forward in 2023.
For now, however, Henne is the man in K.C.
On Sunday we were reminded why the Chiefs have brought back the veteran for the last few years as the primary backup for Patrick Mahomes. Time and again, Henne has been able to put on a helmet, warm up with a few tosses on the sideline, and come into a game under any circumstance and keep the Chiefs afloat. It’s not that Henne has shouldered a huge load for any long stretch of time; rather, he’s been an important bandage placed upon a worrisome wound and given K.C. just what they needed at the time.
Who can forget the way that Henne kept the Chiefs competitive when Mahomes’ kneecap was visually moving around on national television? Better yet, how about the time Henne helped the Chiefs advance past the Browns in an important postseason game just two years ago?
No one is going to mistake Henne’s talents for Mahomes’ but when the starter is clearly hurt and limited himself, it’s nice to have someone as reliable as Henne for emergencies like this.
