Chiefs news: BoPete Keyes signs futures deal with Ravens
By Matt Conner
Former Kansas City Chiefs cornerback Thakarius “BoPete” Keyes signed a futures deal with the Baltimore Ravens.
The clock of NFL business can feel brutal in the wake of a season-ending loss. The demand to keep up with the Joneses leaves very little time for a break after getting your heart torn out, which means teams like the Baltimore Ravens had to put their heads down and get back to the business of roster development shortly after losing a heartbreaker in the Wild Card round to the Cincinnati Bengals.
On Monday, the Ravens submitted several reserve/futures signings to the league office to make them official, and a familiar name was among them for Kansas City Chiefs fans: defensive back Thakarius “BoPete” Keyes.
The Ravens have provided a home for a lot of familiar faces for Chiefs Kingdom lately—including wide receivers Sammy Watkins and Demarcus Robinson, pass rusher Justin Houston, and cornerback Marcus Peters—and Keyes would be the latest.
Keyes is a former seventh round pick of the Chiefs from the 2020 NFL Draft who played sparingly in eight games during his rookie campaign. From there, he was ultimately released before his sophomore season in the league but he caught on with the Indianapolis Colts. However, that stay was short-lived and he went on to spend time with a handful of NFL franchises thereafter—including a one-day stay with New England.
Most recently Keyes was with the Houston Texans (for the second time) but now the Ravens have given him a place to call home early in the offseason where he can hopefully catch on for a real opportunity.
