Former Kansas City Chiefs assistant Mike Kafka is continuing to garner head coaching interviews—the latest with the Indianapolis Colts.

The Indianapolis Colts are turning over several stones in their search for a new head coach, and the latest round of names involved includes a former assistant coach with the Kansas City Chiefs in Mike Kafka.

The Colts have officially requested permission to interview both coordinators for the New York Giants. Kafka is the team’s offensive coordinator, and he’s drawn the interest of Colts owner Jim Irsay along with Giants defensive coordinator Wink Martindale.

Kafka was the quarterbacks coach for the Chiefs from 2018 through 2021 after starting with Andy Reid’s staff as a quality control coach back in 2017—Patrick Mahomes’ first season in the National Football League. The Chiefs gave Kafka the title of passing game coordinator in his last two seasons with the team, but that didn’t keep Giants head coach Brian Daboll from hiring him away to run his offense in his first year in the Big Apple.

The Colts are looking at several candidates from both inside and outside of their own organization as they look to find a permanent replacement for Frank Reich, who was fired several games into the season. The team brought in Jeff Saturday as interim in a perplexing move at midseason and the results were disastrous. However, Saturday reportedly remains in play for the permanent job as well.

The Chiefs are already in the mix for the Colts gig after the team interviewed current Chiefs offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy late last week.

Kafka has previously been linked with head coach openings for the Carolina Panthers and Houston Texans.
