It was clear via Twitter that Chiefs Kingdom, including several players, loved watching the Chargers do what they do best: melt down at the worst times.

In some ways, it might have stung for just a second for Kansas City Chiefs fans who were watching Brandon Staley and the Los Angeles Chargers suffer a complete postseason meltdown in the Wild Card round of the NFL playoffs. That’s because it wasn’t so long ago that the Chiefs were doing the same.

Chiefs Kingdom knows well how embarrassing, how frustrating, how confusing, and how maddening it can be to watch a talented team cough up a big lead and ultimately lose a very winnable game with everything on the line. Fortunately, those days are long gone. Instead, with Patrick Mahomes at quarterback, Andy Reid as head coach, and this talented roster at work, the Chiefs are very often the team that comes from behind to shock the other side.

That is why, on Saturday night, after feeling a bit of empathy for the position the Chargers were in, the rest of the night was spent somewhere between hilarity and celebration.

Every offseason, we’re treated to 100 reasons why the Chargers will be the darlings of the division—the AFC West—this time around. In 2022, it was the trade for Khalil Mack or the signing of J.C. Jackson or the maturation of Justin Herbert or the weapons at his disposal. And for the first half of their game against the Jacksonville Jaguars, that all looked true—that the No. 5 seed might “upset” the fourth.

Then the Chargers did what only they can do and the meltdown began. Somehow, by the time Riley Patterson’s game-winning field goal went through the uprights to move Jacksonville onto the next round, they became the first and only team in NFL history to lose in the postseason with a -5 turnover differential. Yeah, that’s bad.

Perhaps you still woke up laughing this morning. Many of us did. It was outrageous and it was impossible not to love it—that is, if you love seeing the Chiefs rivals roll over. Check out some of our favorite responses from Twitter.

Some Chiefs players just didn’t know what to say and just expressed mostly shock.

It wasn’t long before some of you were thinking about the repercussions.
