3. Patrick Mahomes

Resolution: No more silly interceptions.

Patrick Mahomes deserves to be the MVP this season. He’s amazing. He’s the top reason the Chiefs are a serious Super Bowl contender despite some of the issues we’ve discussed. However, one thing he’s done this season is to throw some silly interceptions. I’m fine with a quarterback throwing a few picks when they’re being aggressive and pushing the ball down the field and a defensive back just makes a great play. Unfortunately, that’s not how I would describe a lot of Mahomes’ interceptions this season.

Without going back and counting them, I’d guess at least 50% of Mahomes’ 12 interceptions have just been careless throws where he just didn’t see a guy and threw a ball he shouldn’t have. He still brings WAY more good to the table, but I truly believe that he could be just as great and just as explosive while still protecting the ball better. I don’t mean taking fewer deep shots or not trying to thread a ball to a receiver. I just mean be a little more aware of where defenders are and what the game situation is.

It almost feels wrong to criticize Mahomes at all because he’s so great, but I’m guessing if you asked him how he could improve he would say something very similar.

Next up, we’ve got a few resolutions for KC’s head coach.
