When will Clyde be ready?

The impact of this question might not seem all that important right now for the Chiefs, and no one will blame you if you’re not even concerned here. But the truth is that the rigors of the regular season are taxing on every player and it doesn’t take effort to recall recent moments in Chiefs history where health in the backfield was a vital concern.

Clyde Edwards-Helaire has also been out with a high ankle sprain ever since Week 11 and now he’s on injured reserve. He’s available to come off of it soon enough, but the Chiefs have looked great on the ground—at the very least, good enough—with the tandem of rookie Isiah Pacheco and scatback Jerick McKinnon generating such solid production down the stretch.

But here’s the thing. Even on Sunday, Pacheco looked like he could have been injured and he’s been listed on the team’s injury report with a shoulder issue for weeks. That doesn’t mean he’ll miss time, but it does remind everyone that nothing is guaranteed and contingencies should be pored over. Edwards-Helaire was a high-level draft investment for good reason, and he even looked great to start the season (surprisingly as a red zone weapon).

Will Clyde come back to play sometime soon? How much will he fit in? It’d be nice to be at full strength as the games matter more.
