5. Frank Clark and George Karlaftis, Defensive End

I may have been one of the many fans who expected way too much of George Karlaftis this season, but I wasn’t fooled by the hype surrounding Frank Clark in training camp.

Karlaftis has been coming around strong since the bye week but was borderline unplayable between Weeks 2 and 7, especially against the run. According to Pro Football Focus ($), he has the fifth-worst tackle grade among all defensive linemen and edge defenders in the NFL, including the ninth-highest missed tackle rate. It’s not all negative as he’s tied for the lead league in batted passes among defensive linemen with six. Furious George has been strong since the bye week, recording three sacks and 17 pressures in those six games. Don’t get me wrong, I’ve loved his pick since the night of the draft, but he hasn’t exactly been a contender for Defensive Rookie of the Year so far in 2022.

I have never been a fan of Frank Clark in Kansas City. He’s never come close to living up to his giant contract for more than a game at a time and has been as average as one can be at his position. Also, and I understand that this is controversial, I feel that his 2019-20 Super Bowl run performance is slightly overrated by Chiefs fans. He’s not a terrible player, but he has been the most overpaid non-quarterback in the NFL for a little while and is way too inconsistent as an overall player.
