George Karlaftis

Kansas City’s second pick in April’s NFL Draft hadn’t exactly played to his draft position through the first 11 weeks of the NFL season. In the past three weeks, it appears the light has come on for the player affectionately known as “Furious George.” Karlaftis has notched a sack in each of the last three games and seems to be expanding his set of pass-rush moves. He had been solely dependent upon his bull rush but is learning to get home in other ways.

His emergence helps the Chiefs generate pressure with four. The more they can do that, the better off the back seven will be in defending the pass. They say sacks come in bunches in the NFL. That looks to be the case with Kansas City’s first-rounder. If he can sustain this level of play, the defense will continue to ascend. He was part of a six-sack, season-best effort from Kansas City’s defense on Sunday.
