Kadarius Toney

What a roller coaster it was nabbing Kadarius Toney at the trade deadline. On one hand, we received a first-round wideout for pennies on the dollar just one year into his contract. On the other, he had only played in four games as a professional. His time with the New York Giants was derailed by injury, and while his low mileage in the NFL seems good for the Chiefs at first glance, it took just two weeks in Kansas City for that baggage to rear its ugly head.

Hamstring injuries are incredibly pesky among NFL wide receivers, and it’s tough to tell exactly how long they will linger. Fortunately for the Kingdom, Toney was back in practice this week—although in a limited capacity—and he will likely carry a questionable status into gameday. Pete Sweeney of Arrowhead Pride shared footage of KT at practice on Thursday, and it looked promising. If he can be cleared to play on Sunday, his twitchy nature and breakaway speed will play a huge role in the success of the offense in Denver.

When I say that the Broncos’ secondary is nasty, I mean it. For anyone who hasn’t kept tabs on the AFC West thus far, try not to be surprised if there is a slow start for the Chiefs on Sunday. The glass-half-full perspective will note the fact that K.C. scored 44 points against the leagues leading defense, San Fransisco, in Week 7, but the Broncos D has only allowed 20 or more points in four of their games this season. The Chiefs will need to be on their A-game Sunday to score big against them, and Kadarius Toney getting cleared would be a huge stride toward that potential.
