KC Chiefs release Taylor Stallworth from active roster

The Kansas City Chiefs have decided to release defensive tackle Taylor Stallworth with only a handful of games left in the regular season.

Just two days after their loss on the road against the Cincinnati Bengals, the Kansas City Chiefs have made some roster changes to their defense. Defensive tackle Taylor Stallworth was released on Tuesday in a move that opens up room for a shift and maybe a potential upgrade to the team’s pass rush.

Stallworth was originally signed by the Chiefs back in free agency in the spring to a one-year deal after formerly playing for the Indianapolis Colts. Stallworth provided the Chiefs with competition and depth along the interior as the Chiefs hoped he might display further disruptive abilities that showed up in 2021.

Originally signed as an undrafted free agent by the New Orleans Saints, Stallworth had turned into a rotational player for the Colts who played in 32 total games over the last two years. This year, however, he languished on the Chiefs practice squad for the first several games until he finally got his first official snaps in Week 7. Stallworth has been on the active roster ever since as a fill-in for Turk Wharton, who was placed on injured reserve earlier this fall.

In scant playing time in six games, Stallworth had only 4 total tackles and 1 quarterback pressure for the Chiefs this season.

In his place, the Chiefs have not yet announced a new move, but the team does have candidates to replace him on the practice squad if they wanted to promote from within. Danny Shelton has been around all season without ever being elevated, and the Chiefs also recently signed former Baltimore Ravens tackle Brandon Williams as well. Either player would aid the team’s run defense.
