Michael Jordan would be quite proud of the way Patrick Mahomes went over the top on a touchdown against the Cincinnati Bengals.

It’s not all that uncommon to hear comparisons of Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes against the greatest athletes in other sports. Certainly Michael Jordan is a name that’s come up before when talking about the potential of Mahomes to become the greatest of all time (GOAT) like Jordan himself in basketball.

Air Jordan would be proud of the way that Mahomes paid homage on a touchdown run in the second half of the Chiefs’ game against the Cincinnati Bengals in Week 13.

The Chiefs and Bengals were tied at 17 apiece with just under four minutes to go in the fourth quarter. Mahomes and the Chiefs, on the road at Paul Brown Stadium, were hoping to take their biggest lead of the game after trailing for the entire first half and had the Bengals on the ropes with first-and-goal to go. Then the Bengals defense came up big with one stop after another for three downs.

The Chiefs made a gutsy fourth-down call to give Mahomes another chance to put it in the end zone from just three yards out. Instead of throwing the ball, Mahomes decided to just take it in himself with a tough dive into the end zone that looked eerily similar to perhaps the most famous American athlete ever.

Immediately after Mahomes scored the touchdown, everyone responded on Twitter like you’d expect, by calling out the similarities to Air Jordan and expressing their praise for Mahomes’ ability to will the Chiefs to a 24-17 lead.

This is the sort of play that’s going to end up as a primary calling card on Mahomes’ hopes to win a second MVP award this season.
