Houston Texans

The Houston Texans just promoted current head coach Lovie Smith last offseason. But with the league’s worst record, Smith could be on his way out of the Lone Star State.

Smith is already fielding media questions regarding his long-term outlook with the Texans. He was defensive, but noted that “it’s kind of easy to take shots at us because we’re not quite there.” The fact is, no aspect of the Texans is anything close to “there.” The Texans had a very strange coaching search last offseason, with former quarterback Josh McCown being a leading candidate at one point.

Things have been downhill ever since the Texans traded away wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins. There are few bright spots, especially with second-year quarterback Davis Mills regressing in his sophomore season. This team is not built to win right now or in the near future. However, since hiring Smith, their prospects have only deteriorated. He has only won eight games as an NFL head coach since the 2012 season, his last in Chicago. He is an uninspiring head coach, with no on-field reasons to be leading the Texans in 2023.

Houston interviewed Bieniemy in 2021, following the Bill O’Brien failure. The fact is, Houston would be a challenging rebuild for any coach. If Bieniemy wants a challenge and wants to prove his Kansas City doubters wrong, turning around the Texans would do the trick.
