Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver JuJu Smith-Schuster posted a positive injury update on Instagram on Monday to help alleviate concerns.
JuJu Smith-Schuster has been nothing short of a revelation for the Kansas City Chiefs offense this season, especially as he’s gained more experience and built greater chemistry with Patrick Mahomes and his other teammates. That’s why it was so difficult to see him leave the field on Sunday at Arrowhead Stadium with an injury suffered against the Jacksonville Jaguars.
Smith-Schuster ended up leaving the game after taking a big hit from Jags safety Andre Cisco, and the Chiefs announced later in the day that the veteran receiver was in the team’s concussion protocol.
Following the game, Chiefs players noted in their remarks to reporters that Smith-Schuster was talking and playful in the locker room, which was already a good sign. On Monday, however, Smith-Schuster gave fans in Chiefs Kingdom a direct report that things were looking up—or at least that’s the way everyone is going to interpret things.
So far this season, Smith-Schuster has 46 catches for 615 yards and 2 touchdowns for the Chiefs, having emerged as their new No. 1 option at wide receiver to go along with Travis Kelce’s presence in the passing game. Smith-Schuster was a player the Chiefs had chased in two consecutive free agency periods and they finally landed their guy on a one-year deal this spring. Given the nature of his contract, fans have regularly expressed their hopes for a long-term deal between the Chiefs and Smith-Schuster on social media.
The Chiefs have a lot of mouths to feed on offense, so it’s not as if the ship capsized with Smith-Schuster out of the lineup. However, he’s definitely one of their best weapons and his presence has helped keep the offense so dangerous and effective even after having traded Tyreek Hill.
More detailed updates will be forthcoming on Smith-Schuster later this week.
