When will announcers stop mentioning Tyreek Hill during Chiefs games?

If you’ve watched every Chiefs game on TV this season, you’ll know the announcers mention the Chiefs being without Tyreek Hill each game.

The Kansas City Chiefs are 6-2 at the midway point of the season and vying for the top spot in the AFC. Through these eight games, Chiefs fans have had to sit through games where the announcers constantly bring up one name: Tyreek Hill, who no longer plays for the Chiefs.

As we all remember, the Chiefs traded Hill back in March. One of the big questions we heard from the national media is how Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs’ offense would operate without Hill. (Spoiler alert: it’s going quite well.)

Obviously, Hill has not been with the Chiefs in their eight games this year nor has he played a game against the Chiefs. But Hill is still brought up each and every single Chiefs game by the television broadcasters.

When will that stop? You may hate to read this, but Hill will likely continue to be mentioned during every Chiefs game this year.

Early on in the season, the broadcasters would ask how this offense will do without Hill. More recently when Hill gets brought up, it’s being used to compliment Mahomes and the Chiefs offense and how well they are doing given that the Chiefs are second in total offense, first in passing, and first in points scored per game.

It is understandable why Chiefs fans would be annoyed by broadcasters constantly bringing up Hill. He was a fan favorite and the trade was a surprise to a lot of people. Fans want to simply move on from it.

Through eight games this year, the Chiefs have played three games on CBS, two on NBC, one on Prime, one on ESPN, and one on Fox. Given the different announcers for Chiefs games so far this year, all of them will want to chime in on the Chiefs being without Hill. If they’ve announced multiple Chiefs games this year, odds are they will want to follow up on their previous comment and give a more updated opinion on the subject.

The Chiefs are scheduled to play four games on CBS for the remainder of this year. All three of Kansas City’s CBS-broadcast games so far have been called by Jim Nantz and Tony Romo. If another CBS announcing crew gets to call a Chiefs game this season, those broadcasters will absolutely bring it up because it will be their first chance to give their take on the Chiefs being without Hill.

The truth is, the trade was a big story in the offseason and how the Chiefs would do without Hill was a huge storyline coming into the season. As mentioned earlier, any discussion of the Chiefs being without Hill is only done to talk about how well the offense is doing without him.

If you watched the Bills-Packers Sunday Night Football game from Week 8, Mike Tirico and Cris Collinsworth took a little bit of time discussing how Aaron Rodgers has struggled without Davante Adams. When Tom Brady left New England in 2020, broadcasters mentioned the loss of Brady in every Patriots game that year and it still gets mentioned occasionally this year during Patriots games, despite Brady’s departure happening more than two years ago.

So don’t be surprised if Hill continues to get mentioned in every game for the remainder of the season, especially if it’s by a broadcasting crew that has yet to announce a Chiefs game this season. Besides, at this point, it’s only brought up to praise the Chiefs and how far the offense has come without Hill.
