Offensive tackle Eric Fisher

The popular return of the prodigal son. Offensive tackle Eric Fisher was once the face of Kansas City football. However, age and injuries have caught up to the former No. 1 overall pick. If he were to make an NFL return, the Chiefs would make sense.

Fisher left Kansas City after the atrocious offensive line showing in Super Bowl LV. His injury ended his Chiefs tenure with a whimper, rather than a well-deserved bang. After all, Fisher had 113 career starts and two Pro Bowl appearances in a Chiefs uniform. If there is one recent player that Chiefs fans underrate, it is Fisher.

His performance with the Indianapolis Colts in 2021 made him look washed out. He allowed 41 pressures and seven sacks, the most since his 2013 and 2014 campaigns. He still earned a 68.2 PFF grade, not an awful grade for an aging offensive tackle. Plus, reports indicated that Fisher played much of 2021 hurt, certainly hindering his performance.

If Fisher returned, he would not be pushing for Orlando Brown Jr.’s job, but rather for the right tackle spot. Andrew Wylie has been the Chiefs’ weak link on the offensive line, but Lucas Niang could return soon. If he is still hurt or doesn’t improve at the right tackle spot, the Chiefs should evaluate their options at the position ahead of the postseason. Fisher is not only familiar with head coach Andy Reid’s scheme, but his return would give him a well-deserved send-off into the sunset.
