2. Ronald Jones
Ronald Jones was signed by the Chiefs early on in the 2022 free agency period, and the signing led to a cult following of sorts. The Clyde Edwards-Helaire haters—those with a jaded perspective of CEH for his being a first-round pick—were out for blood. No matter how much support Jones received, however, he never had a chance to take the starting job. The Chiefs running back by committee approach has been fruitful thus far, but the effort is made of a number of talents greater than RoJo.
Just as fan-favorite Derrick Gore was forced out of the RB room in the offseason, Jones has been pigeonholed to the practice squad. He recently took to Twitter.com to voice frustration about his current status and made a plea to be released. There is certainly a team out there that could use his services; possibly one that would be willing to pay for them.
The Chiefs were frugal in constructing Ronald Jones’ contract back in March and can’t expect anything different from someone else with interest in him. A single seventh-round selection would suffice and serve as a legitimate win-win for both parties.
