The Kansas City Chiefs are among three teams with reported interest in Carolina Panthers pass rusher Brian Burns.

As the NFL trade deadline approaches, more and more rumors are emerging about potential moves, and the Carolina Panthers have set a reported price on pass rusher Brian Burns. Three teams have specifically been identified as showing interest and the Kansas City Chiefs are among them.

To be fair, it would be wrong if the Kansas City Chiefs had not called the Carolina Panthers about pass rusher Brian Burns at this point. It is a general manager’s job to improve his respective team in any way possible, and Brett Veach is certainly a man who has proven he’s willing to do what it takes to make the Chiefs a better team overall.

Burns would be a huge upgrade to any team given that he’s only 24 years old and is already a proven edge rusher with double-digit sack aims on an annual basis. For a team like the Chiefs especially, who have struggled to find a consistent pass-rushing presence on the outside, a player like Burns would provide the sort of anchor that the team hasn’t had since Justin Houston’s prime.

The Philadelphia Eagles and Los Angeles Rams were the other teams mentioned in play, but others could emerge as well once they know the price. It’s rare that a consistent pass rusher is made available before he’s really hit his prime, which is why rumors suggest the Panthers are asking for two first-round choices.

The Chiefs have Frank Clark, who is regularly hurting with an ongoing stomach illness, in the last year of his respective contract. The Chiefs have Carlos Dunlap in town on a one-year deal to go with Mike Danna who is in his third season and rookie George Karlaftis.

Burns has 29.5 sacks, 6 forced fumbles, and 9 pass deflections for the Panthers over the last four years since they made him the No. 16 overall selection in the 2019 NFL Draft.
