The Kansas City Chiefs might want to keep cornerback Rashad Fenton out through the bye week in order to get him healthy.

This week presents an interesting decision for the Kansas City Chiefs regarding minor or lingering injuries. As the team prepares to visit the San Francisco 49ers, the Chiefs have to decide whether or not to have various players return in their hopes of picking up a fifth win of the season or whether to let them rest.

On the other side of Week 7 for the Chiefs is the team’s bye in Week 8. That means that any player who rests this Sunday afternoon is going to receive another two extra weeks of rest to get better. For guys who need considerable time to heal from the rigors of a long regular season, the bye could be the difference between being effective or available when it matters most.

For a cornerback like Rashad Fenton, the Chiefs have a big decision to make. On Thursday, Fenton sat out of practice for the second straight day this week with a hamstring, one that already kept him out of Week 6 against the Buffalo Bills. At this point he’s already trending toward not playing. At this point, should the decision be made just to keep him out entirely until the second half of the season begins.

If the Chiefs give Fenton this Sunday off, they will have given him a full month of rest for a hamstring injury yet he’ll only have missed two games. Considering his starting role and overall importance to the defense, it makes sense to allow him to be at 100 percent without any doubts or limitations as the Chiefs take on the season’s back nine. Speaking of, you could also most say the same thing for pass rusher MIke Danna or cornerback Trent McDuffie, both of whom are also dealing with lingering injuries.

Whatever the Chiefs decide to do, the looming bye week could be the safest route with any number of injuries to allow each party involved to get better and feel safer about their situation.
