If you’ve been keeping up with my NFL Power Rankings column, you know I’ve been talking about the Buffalo Bills game for weeks. I was pretty confident that it would be an indicator of who was going to be the top team in the Power Rankings this week (and moving forward) and I was right.
The Bills are No. 1 this week, as they have been for most of the season. It’s a bummer that the Chiefs lost, but I don’t think anyone in Kansas City is particularly heartbroken. The Bills are a good team—a great team even. And K.C. only lost by 4 points with a chance to win at the end. When two great teams play, one has to win. Just like in the playoffs last year, when Kansas City got the last laugh.
So I credit the Bills on their win and am also encouraged that the Chiefs didn’t get totally blown out—like last year. This loss will probably sting down the road with playoff seeding. Oh, well. Here’s to hoping the Bills lose at least two more times.
Another week, another top 5 placement for the KC Chiefs. This time the Chiefs stay pretty much in the same spot as last week.
To say the Chiefs have been consistent in NFL Power Rankings is an understatement. This is their second straight week at No. 3 in most rankings, and pretty much where they’ve been most of the season. They had a slight dip after the Colts lost, but rebounded after their win over the Buccaneers in Week 4. I think it seems to be a reasonable spot. The Eagles are #2 just above them, which is fair considering they are 6-0 and the league’s lone unbeaten team.
Over at Yahoo! Sports, they think the Chiefs are still one of the few teams that actually looks “good” and they aren’t too worried about the Chiefs losing to a good Bills team. That seems like an assessment most of the Chiefs Kingdom can get on board with. They also note that the Chiefs could get a win in Buffalo in the playoffs if needed, but it won’t be easy.
Similarly, NFL.com has the Chiefs at No. 3, just like they did last week. I love this quote they pulled from Andy Reid:
"“It was a great battle. You love these games,” Andy Reid said. “You just don’t want to be sitting on this end of it. But you love the competition and the way the guys get after it.”"
Game recognizes game.
CBS Sports has a rare break in the pattern, putting the Chiefs at No. 4 below the Minnesota Vikings. Weird, but alright. They also have the Eagles above the Bills, but to each their own I suppose.
CBS isn’t the only team that put the Eagles in the top spot, as Pro Football Talk has a similar set-up. But they (wisely) had the Chiefs at #3. Curiously, they are actually worried that the Chiefs could fall to 4-3 next week against the San Francisco 49ers. Are you?
