Wide receiver Kenny Golladay

Remember when wide receiver Kenny Golladay reset the wide receiver market? That seems like a long time ago.

The New York Giants signed Golladay to a four-year, $72 million contract in 2021, and he has not come close to expectations. The Giants gave him that contract because they expected Golladay to be their WR1, and one of the best in the league. Golladay recorded 1,000-yard receiving seasons in 2018 and 2019, then lost most of the 2020 season. He had little impact during his debut season in New York, tallying 37 receptions for 521 yards. Golladay did not even score a touchdown in 2021.

Golladay’s time in New York seems to be ending as he only has two catches in 2022. He has been vocal about lacking playing time, especially after playing only two snaps against the Carolina Panthers.

“I didn’t agree with it. I should be playing regardless. That’s a fact,” Golladay said. When asked whether a trade request could be on the horizon, he responded, “We’ll see how it goes.”

The Chiefs’ offense has run through quarterback Patrick Mahomes and tight end Travis Kelce, giving the illusion that Kansas City needs a new wide receiver. While a receiving upgrade would be nice, the Chiefs don’t seem desperate enough to trade for a 29-year-old player with a huge contract.
