Patrick Mahomes has a very good chance of passing a Hall of Famer on Monday Night Football. All he needs is four touchdown passes.

Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes has broken many records and earned many accolades while being in his sixth season in the NFL. He can do it again in Week 5 by surpassing a Hall of Famer on Monday Night Football. Here’s the kicker: that Hall of Famer will be present at Arrowhead Stadium for the game between the Chiefs and Raiders.

If Mahomes throws four touchdown passes on Monday night, he will surpass former Dallas Cowboys legend Troy Aikman for touchdown passes thrown in a career. Mahomes currently has 162 touchdown passes while Aikman finished his career with 165.

Aikman will be on-site at Arrowhead for the game because he is the color commentator for ESPN’s Monday Night Football, working alongside his longtime broadcasting partner Joe Buck. As many of you may remember, Chiefs fans do have a little bit of a beef with Aikman.

Back in September of 2019, which was Mahomes’ second season as a starting quarterback, The Athletic tweeted a stat that Mahomes has already thrown 36 percent of Aikman’s career touchdowns, doing so in a very short amount of time. Aikman did not seem to appreciate that and apparently did not want to hear any Mahomes praise until Mahomes won 33 percent of Aikman’s Super Bowl titles.

Five months later, Mahomes did exactly that when the Chiefs rallied in the fourth quarter of Super Bowl 54 to come back and defeat the San Francisco 49ers.

Aikman, a three-time Super Bowl champion, earned his 165 touchdown passes in 12 seasons while Mahomes has not even finished his sixth season yet. As you all remember, Mahomes only played one game as a rookie in 2017 and did not throw a touchdown pass in that game.

Yes, we are comparing two completely different eras. Mahomes is playing in a pass-heavy league while running backs were more active during Aikman’s era. Still, that is pretty impressive. When was the last time you heard any player reach a Hall of Famer’s career total at 27 years old?

Go ahead and add this to the already large list of records and accomplishments for Mahomes.
