The Las Vegas Raiders are hoping to get some players back from the concussion protocol before they travel to Kansas City to face the Chiefs.
The Las Vegas Raiders certainly have a significant challenge in front of them in Week 5 as they turn to think about visiting the Kansas City Chiefs in primetime on Monday night. The Chiefs are already in the early lead in an AFC West that has been firmly under their control for the last six seasons—an NFL record for divisional dominance—and they seem eager to make it No. 7 in ’22.
Beyond the gauntlet of facing the Chiefs, however, the Raiders are also dealing with multiple injuries, like most teams, including a couple of serious concerns with head injuries as both linebacker Denzel Perryman and wide receiver Hunter Renfrow are locked in the team’s concussion protocol.
Renfrow in particular is very concerning since he’s been out from the end of Week 2. At the end of the team’s game against the Arizona Cardinals in Week 2, Renfrow suffered a concussion which forced a fumble and the Cards returned it for a touchdown in overtime. Renfrow has missed two games since then and there’s no way of knowing if he’ll turn a corner this week or not.
Without Renfrow, the Raiders are down a Pro Bowl receiver who has proven to be a reliable outlet for Derek Carr and the Raiders’ offense. Last season, Renfrow had 103 catches for 1,038 receiving yards and 9 touchdowns. In the Raiders final game against the Chiefs last year, Renfrow had a sensational game with 13 catches for 117 yards and 1 score.
Perryman is a talented linebacker who has always had trouble staying on the field, going back to his days with the L.A. Chargers. He’s already missed time this year with an ankle injury and now he’s in the concussion protocol. However, it’s important to note that he made his first Pro Bowl last year for Las Vegas as their leading tackler with 154 on the year to go with 3 pass deflections and 2 fumble recoveries.
The Chiefs and Raiders kick off at 7:15 p.m. C.T. on Monday, October 10.
