The Kansas City Chiefs are reportedly interested in bringing back wide receiver Marcus Kemp, per reporter Matt Derrick.

The Kansas City Chiefs are dealing with a number of injuries at the wide receiver position right now, but nothing is considered major at this stage knowing that all three players affected could suit up in Week 4. Still, the Chiefs are making sure to have backup help with their reported interest in a familiar face.

Per reporter Matt Derrick, the Chiefs have brought back Marcus Kemp for a visit with the hopes that he’s healthy enough to pass a physical and rejoin the team’s practice squad. While it won’t help with anything against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers—the team’s Week 4 opponent on Sunday Night Football—it could help down the road if injuries linger.

Kemp has yet to actually re-sign with the Chiefs, but his potential addition would help on special teams as Kemp was always a core four player for coordinator Dave Toub.

Somehow Kemp has always found a way to come back to K.C. even when it seems like his time is up, a testament to his talent and the trust the coaches have in him to do what’s asked. He was first signed as a rookie free agent back in 2017—Patrick Mahomes’ rookie season—and has played in a total of 43 games through four seasons with the Chiefs. (He sat out the 2019 season with injury.)

Over the last couple of years, Kemp has earned additional looks with the Miami Dolphins (late in 2020) and New York Giants (earlier this year). Will the Chiefs be there with yet another opportunity for Kemp? We’ll find out soon enough.
