Harrison Butker to return

No offense to Matthew Wright, but the only move any member of Chiefs Kingdom wants to see is the return of Harrison Butker to his role as the team’s kicker. Of course, if he’s not healthy, we can wait, but Butker’s absence for the last few weeks has served as a strong reminder of how much he means to the team’s success.

Wright is the new replacement kicker, signed in the aftermath of Matt Ammendola’s disastrous performance in Week 3. Ammendola was released within a day after missing a field goal and extra point in the loss to Indianapolis, and Wright was brought on board in the same week that Butker returned to practice in a limited role to see what he’s capable of.

When healthy, the Chiefs feature one of the league’s better kickers in Butker, a young player with strength and accuracy who has already been rewarded with a lucrative extension. Together with Tommy Townsend, who was just named the AFC’s Special Teams Player of the month, they form a bright young tandem for the Chiefs.

Head coach Andy Reid admitted that Butker will be a wait-and-see game-time decision. We’re crossing our fingers that the injury gods will smile upon the Chiefs at this stage because special teams were such a mess a week ago that we’d love to see Butker return sooner than later.
