Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Marquez Valdes-Scantling was forced to sit out practice on Thursday with an abdomen injury.

The Kansas City Chiefs got some good news and some bad news on the injury front on Thursday during practice. The biggest news of the day is part of the latter and it was the biggest surprise given that wide receiver Marquez Valdes-Scantling was forced to sit out for the afternoon with an abdomen injury.

The Chiefs’ official injury report still hasn’t given out any official designations for the game on Sunday against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. At this stage, however, it seems like Valdes-Scantling is not trending in a positive direction.

On Wednesday, Valdes-Scantling’s injury kept him in practice on a limited basis, but on Thursday he was out entirely. The same can be said of kicker Harrison Butker, another player who is trending toward not playing instead of suiting up. Of course, nothing is set in stone before Friday but it’s rare for a player to not practice and then suddenly feel better enough to play.

If Valdes-Scantling was unable to go, it could be possible the Chiefs would allow Skyy Moore to get his first meaningful reps on offense this year. The Chiefs could also give Justin Watson a greater role on offense, and it should be noted that Mecole Hardman is already hurting with a heel issue that has him limited as well in practice.

If the Chiefs needed to reach into their reserves for further help at wideout, they do have some options in Daurice Fountain or Corey Coleman, or Cornell Powell.

Further clarification will be coming on Friday after the team’s final practice of the week.
