The Kansas City Chiefs will hit the road again in Week 3, traveling to face the Indianapolis Colts. The Chiefs are heavy favorites in that matchup, especially since the Colts sport an 0-1-1 record after facing the Houston Texans and Jacksonville Jaguars. But, one wild card for the Colts is quarterback Matt Ryan.

It was only six years ago that Ryan was the NFL’s most valuable player and offensive player of the year. His 14-year stint with the Atlanta Falcons cemented him as one of the best quarterbacks yet to win a Super Bowl. Atlanta traded the 37-year-old veteran to Indianapolis, where Ryan had hopes of contending. He did become the second-fastest quarterback to reach 60,000 career passing yards in the 2022 season opener, but his performance against the Jaguars was far from optimal.

Quarterback Matt Ryan has not played the Kansas City Chiefs often, but he is always dominant against the team.

However, Ryan has always overperformed against the Chiefs. The upcoming Week 3 game will only be Ryan’s fifth time facing the Chiefs in his 15-year career. In the four previous games, however, Ryan has stuffed the stat sheet. He averages a 71.2 completion percentage against the Chiefs, with totals of 1,088 passing yards and 7 touchdowns to 1 interception. His team’s success is middling—Ryan is 2-2 against the Chiefs—and it has been more than 10 years since Ryan beat Kansas City. He will be looking to right the Colts’ ship against the Chiefs.

"“I think we have the right group of guys, but you have to be battle-tested,” Ryan said after Week 2. “You have to have some wounds. You have to come back from those a little bit, and you have to be tougher for those experiences.”"

Ryan is far outside his prime, but still has historical success against the Chiefs. He could be the Colts’ advantage as the Chiefs travel to Lucas Oil Stadium.
