Chiefs vs. Colts: Prediction and odds for Week 3

The Kansas City Chiefs are off to a perfect 2-0 start this season and are traveling to Indianapolis to take on the 0-1-1 Indianapolis Colts in Week 3.

Although expectations were high for the Colts leading up to the season, they have struggled mightily out of the gate. A 20-20 tie with the Houston Texans in Week 1, and laying an egg in Week 2 against the Jacksonville Jaguars, losing 24-0, has muddled excitement around the club’s potential.

FanDuel is sharing that sentiment with their opening lines, labeling the Chiefs as -6.5 point favorites on the road.

History has favored the Colts against the Chiefs, and Indianapolis has played the role of a buzzsaw cutting down Kansas City’s playoff hopes in dramatic fashion four separate times over the past 32 years. The Colts are 14-4 against the Chiefs since 1990 and have won those games by an average of 8.2 points.

Throughout much of that time, the Colts were enjoying the continuity of head coach Tony Dungy and Hall of Fame quarterback Peyton Manning. In 2022, the script is flipped. The Chiefs now have a significant advantage in the head coach and quarterback combination over the Colts, and that is expected to play a big role in the Week 3 matchup.

The Colts have allowed 44 points over the past two weeks, and have shown little to no ability to answer back. From a betting perspective, they have failed to cover the spread as favorites in each of the first two weeks and are entirely to blame for each of their first two games going under the total (46 points against Houston, and 43.5 points against Jacksonville). FanDuel is opening up the Chiefs’ trip to Indianapolis at 49.5 points, which is the first total that Kansas City has faced under 50 thus far in 2022.
