Chiefs vs. Cardinals: Patrick Mahomes suffers left wrist injury
By Matt Conner
Patrick Mahomes has suffered a left wrist injury early in the first quarter that is affecting the way he’s playing against the Cardinals in Week 1.
Update: Patrick Mahomes had negative x-rays taken of his hand after the game, which means he avoided any significant injury. Good news coming from Andy Reid following the game.
The Kansas City Chiefs have been taken back by a couple of early injuries so far in their season-opening game against the Arizona Cardinals. First, they watched Harrison Butker hurt his foot/ankle and leave on a medical cart. Then they watched star quarterback Patrick Mahomes hurt his left wrist, also in the first quarter, which required some tape and attention from the Chiefs’ training staff.
Mahomes went down in an awkward way on his left hand when getting hit in the first quarter and he’s had his hand taped up ever since. He has remained in the game for the duration and the Chiefs haven’t had any problems moving the ball, but watching the game, it’s easy to see the slight adjustments he’s been forced to make when dodging defenders, going down after passing the ball, or even handing the ball off.

Fortunately, Mahomes has looked normal so far on Sunday in a stellar first-half performance against the Cardinals, which includes three touchdown passes—two of them for Clyde Edwards-Helaire. Here’s hoping Mahomes’ wrist doesn’t get any worse during the course of the game and that reports are positive as the team seeks further information and testing after the game.
