2. Patrick Mahomes claims his second NFL MVP Award
In the 2022 NFL season, Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes will break his career high marks in both passing yards (>5,097) and passing touchdowns (>50). In 2018, his first season as a rookie and the year in which he set both of those high water marks, Mahomes became the first Chiefs player in team history to win the NFL MVP Award. And this year, when he surpasses both marks, he’ll win the award again, becoming just the 10th player in NFL history to win more than one MVP.
The narratives all make far too much sense for this to happen. Patrick Mahomes played the worst half of football in his professional career the last time we saw him on the field, in the second half of the AFC Championship Game when we saw the Cincinnati Bengals advance to Super Bowl LVI. Since that time, the media trend has been to count on the downfall of the Super Bowl LIV MVP. But we already know how Mahomes feels about this and other negativity targeted at him – he’s petty. We all love petty Mahomes.
Next, we saw the Chiefs lose the top receiving option for Mahomes’ Chiefs, when the team traded All-Pro wide receiver Tyreek Hill to the Miami Dolphins this offseason. The can Mahomes succeed without Hill? narrative has been far too prevalent this summer. This, of course, despite the reality that Mahomes has been unbelievable in the past when Tyreek Hill has missed games. Like, 347.4 yards per game, 8 touchdowns, 1 interception and a 103.1 passer rating over five games kind of unbelievable. This is not really a concern, despite Hill being very talented.
And finally there is the it’s Josh Allen’s turn narrative. But, as far as we’re concerned, Allen won’t win the MVP Award until he beats Mahomes and the Chiefs in a game that matters.
The new look Chiefs offense, led by the best player in the world, will set the NFL world on fire this season and claim his second MVP award as a result.
1. The Kansas City Chiefs win Super Bowl LVII
No one really believed that we’d end this prediction thread without arguing that the Kansas City Chiefs would win the Super Bowl, did you? Despite oddsmakers setting the Chiefs’ odds around 10-1, between the third and fifth best odds in the NFL, the team should, in fact, be considered the odds-on favorite.
We have watched what happens when the right coach-quarterback combination churns over a roster but remains at the top of the heap. It’s the same formula that led the Brady-Bellechick Patriots to so much success. In the end it shouldn’t ever matter who else is on the team. Just like Tom Brady’s Patriots – the Patrick Mahomes led Chiefs should always be considered a favorite to win it all.
When all is said and done, this is the best Kansas City Chiefs roster in franchise history, and they’ll cap off the season hoisting the franchise’s third Lombardi Trophy.
