16. The Isaiah Battle trade

Chiefs receive: 2018 conditional pick (not conveyed)

Seattle receives: OT Isaiah Battle

One of many low-level trades in Veach’s inaugural season, trading away offensive tackle Isaiah Battle doesn’t even warrant attention.

Battle signed a reserve/future contract with Kansas City on Jan. 4, 2017, after spending the 2016 season with the St. Louis Rams practice squad. He entered the league rather unceremoniously, via the 2015 supplementary draft. The Rams surrendered a 2016 fifth-round selection for Battle, a viable NFL prospect with discipline problems in college.

The Chiefs traded away Battle before the final 53-man roster cuts in 2017, hoping to get something before releasing Battle. Veach sent Battle to the Seattle Seahawks for a conditional seventh-round selection, hoping the volatile Seahawks offensive line could net Kansas City another Day 3 selection. However, Battle never saw game action for Seattle and was waived in early November 2017.

Battle has not been with a team since 2019, after never playing a snap of meaningful professional football. Ultimately, Veach tried to flip the maligned prospect to another team, but could not get a return.
