The Kansas City Chiefs found multiple ways to honor the legacy of Hall of Fame quarterback Len Dawson in their final preseason game.
This has been a dark week for the Kansas City Chiefs and the entire community with the loss of franchise icon and local hero Len Dawson. The franchise is now making known just how much he meant to the team with a number of touching tributes to honor his legacy beginning with the preseason game against the Green Bay Packers.
Team owner Clark Hunt appeared on the broadcast to note that there was more to come this season, but the Chiefs opened up their second home game of the preseason with a few meaningful gestures for Dawson.
First, the Chiefs announced that they were going to wear the No. 16 on every helmet for this year. You can see the announcement on Twitter below.
Beyond that, the Chiefs began the game on offense by getting into a choir huddle, which is the formation that Dawson would use when he was the team’s quarterback. Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes was not going to play a single official snap on Thursday, but he did come out to play his part and honor Dawson.
