#2: Corey Coleman

Wide receiver Corey Coleman is a long shot to make the Chiefs 53-man roster right now. But, he certainly brings an experienced and productive veteran to the return game.

Coleman is familiar to Big 12 football fans after Coleman was a standout player for the Baylor Bears. The Cleveland Browns selected Coleman 15th overall in the 2016 NFL Draft, but Coleman never lived up to his draft billing. His drop problems and limited route tree limited him to two seasons with Cleveland and another with the New York Giants. Coleman has not played a regular-season snap since 2018 when he played eight games for the Giants.

In those eight 2018 games, Coleman posted minuscule receiving numbers. His kick return numbers jump off the stat sheet though and give him hope to play again. He had 23 kick returns for 598 yards, averaging 26 yards per return. All those metrics ranked in the league’s top-10 in 2018, and his average was sixth best.

Coleman was not utilized in the passing game against the Bears, but his two kick returns for 47 yards are good. Kansas City retaining Coleman would likely make him a return specialist, rather than a wide receiver. He is a long shot, but Chiefs general manager Brett Veach loves his first-round-bust reclamation projects. Could Coleman be the next on the project list?
