3. 13 personnel in the red zone

Travis Kelce has been nothing short of the man in Kansas City since his arrival in 2013. He continues to build a first-ballot Hall of Fame resume and is arguably the best tight end of all time. In all reality though, his age is a growing concern. He’s still the uncontested TE1—on the Chiefs and in the NFL alike—but the prospect of life after Kelce has been gaining steam in recent months.

2019 undrafted free agent Jody Fortson—who had two touchdowns on Saturday—and 2021 fifth-round pick Noah Gray joined Kelce in three-tight end sets in the red zone early on in the game. It seems as if that may become a regularity for the Chiefs this season.

It is unknown whether the roster will feature five or six receivers this year, and that will likely determine how many tight ends will suit up on game days, but 13 personnel made up of a 6-foot-4 Noah Gray, 6-foot-5 Travis Kelce, and 6-foot-7 Jody Fortson in the red zone will be a nightmare for opposing defensive coordinators to plan for.
